# How to Add and Style Captions

> Generate accurate captions automatically and customize their look.

Clippo generates accurate, timed captions from your video's audio. You can style them to match your brand and edit them before exporting.

## How to add captions

### Using Clippo Magic (easiest)

Captions are generated automatically when you use [Clippo Magic](/features/clippo-magic). No extra steps required.

### Using Director Mode

    Toggle on **Captions** in the Director panel.

  <Step title="Choose a caption style">
    Click the gear icon next to Captions. You'll see style presets:

    * **Classic** — white text, black outline
    * **Bold** — large, centered, animated word-by-word
    * **Minimal** — small, bottom-left, no animation
    * **Brand** — uses your Brand Kit colors and fonts (if set up)
    * **Custom** — full control over every setting

    Click **Apply** to generate captions. Processing takes 30–60 seconds for most videos.

## How to edit captions

    After captions are generated, click the **Captions** tab in the editor panel. You'll see the full transcript with timestamps.

    Click on any caption line to edit the text. Fix typos, adjust wording, or correct any words the AI got wrong.

  <Step title="Adjust timing">
    Drag the start or end handles of a caption block on the timeline to adjust when it appears and disappears.

    * **Split**: Click on a caption line and press the **Split** button to break it into two lines
    * **Merge**: Select two adjacent caption lines and click **Merge** to combine them

## How to style captions

    Adjust these settings:

    | Setting        | Options                                               |
    | -------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
    | **Font**       | Choose from 20+ built-in fonts or your Brand Kit font |
    | **Size**       | Small, Medium, Large, or custom pixel size            |
    | **Color**      | Text color, outline color, background color           |
    | **Position**   | Top, center, or bottom of the video                   |
    | **Animation**  | None, fade, pop, word-by-word highlight               |
    | **Outline**    | None, thin, medium, thick                             |
    | **Background** | None, solid box, rounded pill                         |

    Changes apply in real time. Watch the preview to make sure your captions are readable and look good.

## Download captions as SRT

If you need a separate caption file (for YouTube, social platforms, or accessibility):

1. Open the **Captions** panel
2. Click the **Download SRT** button
3. Save the `.srt` file to your computer

You can upload this file directly to YouTube, LinkedIn, or any platform that supports SRT captions.

## Tips

* **Captions cost 1 credit per minute** of original video length. Included free when using Clippo Magic.
* **Caption accuracy is typically 95%+** — but always review and fix any errors before exporting.
* **Captions are burned into the video on export.** If you want captions as a separate file, download the SRT before exporting.
* **Use the Bold style for short-form content** (TikTok, Reels) — it's designed for small screens and fast scrolling.
